A Career Comes Full Circle: Dave and Lisa Norris Acquire J&K Printing

Canton business owners take the next step in a journey that began in the printing industry more than 25 years ago
CANTON, OHIO — More than 25 years ago, Dave Norris began his career in the printing industry at just 18 years old.
At the time, he couldn't have known where that first opportunity would lead.
After spending 15 years learning the printing business from the ground up, Norris eventually moved into entrepreneurship, design, and marketing, building relationships with businesses throughout Northeast Ohio.
Now, that journey has brought him back to where it all began.
Dave and Lisa Norris have acquired J&K Printing, a longtime Canton commercial printing company that has served local businesses since 1985.
“This really feels like my career coming full circle,” Norris said. “Printing is where I learned about quality, deadlines, customer relationships, and the importance of getting the little things right. I never imagined that all these years later Lisa and I would have the opportunity to carry forward a company with the reputation and history J&K has built.”

A Journey Built on Relationships
Norris' years in the printing industry became the foundation for much of what followed in his career.
He learned production, customer service, sales, and, perhaps most importantly, the value of long-term relationships.
When that chapter of his career eventually ended, Norris began building something of his own. One opportunity led to another, relationships turned into clients, and over time he and Lisa built StandOut Design & Marketing.
But printing was never very far away.
Years later, conversations with longtime J&K Printing owner Keith Gillilan began to turn toward the future of the company.
Gillilan had become a trusted friend and mentor to Norris, and over time the idea of Dave and Lisa carrying J&K forward began to make more and more sense.
“We weren't looking to buy a business just for the sake of buying another business,” Norris said. “J&K was different. I understood the industry, I respected what Keith had built, and there was already a relationship and level of trust there. It just felt right.”
Built for Business
J&K Printing has served Canton and Stark County businesses for more than four decades.
The company specializes in business-to-business digital printing, helping companies, organizations, and professionals produce the materials they need to operate, communicate, and market effectively.
Its digital printing capabilities allow J&K to efficiently handle projects such as:
Business cards
Brochures and flyers
Booklets
Postcards and direct mail
Presentation materials
Forms
Envelopes
Manuals
Sales and marketing materials
Short- and medium-run commercial printing
With digital production at the heart of the operation, J&K is built around the things business customers value most: speed, accuracy, consistency and dependable turnaround.
“Businesses don't have time for printing to become complicated,” Norris said. “They need the job done correctly, they need it when they were promised it, and they need somebody who understands that deadlines matter. That is where J&K has built its reputation.”
Protecting What Made J&K Successful
For Norris, the acquisition isn't about changing J&K into something completely different.
It's about understanding what has worked for more than 40 years and building on it.
A major part of that continuity is Heather, who has spent approximately 28 years with J&K and will continue leading the company's day-to-day operations.

“Heather is an absolute superstar,” Norris said. “She knows the customers, the equipment, the jobs and all the little details that make J&K work. Having her continue to lead the company was incredibly important to us.”
Customers will continue working with the same people they know while the new ownership team begins improving systems, technology and the overall customer experience behind the scenes.
“We want to preserve the personal service that made J&K successful while making it even easier for businesses to work with us,” Norris said. “That means better systems, easier communication, faster processes, and continuing to look for ways to improve.”
The Next Chapter

J&K Printing will remain its own company and continue focusing on commercial digital printing for businesses throughout Canton, Stark County, and Northeast Ohio.
Its relationship with StandOut Design & Marketing will also create additional resources when customers need branding, graphic design, websites, advertising or other marketing support, but Norris says the mission of J&K itself remains clear.
Be the printing company businesses can depend on. Most the time turning jobs back to the client in 24 hours!
“J&K has been around since 1985 because customers trust them,” Norris said. “Lisa and I don't take that lightly. Our goal is to honor that history, take care of those relationships and keep improving the experience for the next generation of J&K customers.”
For Norris, there's also something especially meaningful about returning to the industry where his career began.
“At 18, I thought I was learning how to design for print,” Norris said. “Looking back, I was really learning about business, customers, relationships, and the details that make people come back.”
Now, more than 25 years later, those lessons have led him back to print.
Only this time, he's helping write the next chapter.
The printers are running. The legacy continues. And J&K Printing is ready for what's next.
